Attention Residents: Please remember that the township has a Burn Ordinance (Chapter 7-105) in place to ensure safety and prevent hazards. Before starting any open burn, check the regulations and ensure compliance.
§ 7-105. Regulations. [Ord. 5-2001, 8/6/2001, § 5; as amended by 0rd. 2013-03, 3/4/2013]
No person may permit the open burning of material, with the exception of the following:
A. A fire set to prevent or abate a fire hazard, with approval from the Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) Regional Air Quality Program Office and under the supervision of a public officer.
B. A fire set for the purpose of instructing personnel in firefighting, with approval from the DEP’s Regional Air Quality Program Office.
C. A fire set for the prevention and control of disease or pests, with approval from the DEP’s Regional Air Quality Program Office.
D. A fire set for the purpose of burning, clearing, and grubbing waste, provided the fire occurs on private property and is at least 100 feet from any building, property line, or road line.
E. A fire set in conjunction with the production of agricultural commodities in their unmanufactured state on the premises of the farm operation.
F. A fire set solely for cooking food.
G. A fire set solely for recreational or ceremonial purposes.
